General Electric Co. has a new service tool that’s supposed to improve preventative maintenance, tune-up and repair calls for the company’s appliances.
The New Field Inspector system — branded NewFi — was launched earlier this year. It gives GE Appliances service technicians repair technology to make more accurate assessments and diagnoses of possible performance problems, according to a news release from the company.
The service allows field technicians to connect laptop computers to the electronic controls of new GE Appliances and gain access to diagnostic data. With the information, the technician can quickly identify failing or failed parts.
The service is supposed to lead to quicker troubleshooting times and less invasive service calls.
NewFi also is expected to help appliance engineers in developing the next generation of products, because the information could be used to optimize part performance.
General Electric’s (NYSE: GE) GE Appliances & Lighting unit is based in Louisville.
